Job Description

This position is responsible for protecting life and property and providing prehospital care for the sick or injured.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Protects life and property;
• Performs firefighter activities including driving apparatus, laying hose, and performing fire combat;
• Operates radio and other communication devices;
• Performs salvage operations;
• Performs general maintenance around fire station;
• Assists in training new employees as assigned;
• Presents educational programs to community on safety, medical, and fire prevention;
• Performs duties as EMT-P including ALS PT care and supervises medical treatments performed by other EMS staff;
• Participates in the inspection of buildings, hydrants, and other structures in fire prevention programs;
• Attends on-going education;
• Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:


Education and Experience:

• High School diploma or equivalent;
• Or equivalent education, and/or experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license;
• Paramedic license;
• Advanced Life Support certification;
• CPR certification;
• FF “I” certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced Trauma Life Support certification;
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of department policies and procedures;
• Skill in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems;
• Skill in using computers for data entry;
• Skill in using computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes;
• Ability to organize and communicate effectively.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is very heavy and requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work also requires balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work involves crisis situations that require this position to make major decisions involving people, resources, and property.
